Silo, also known as a container, is used to store raw materials for product storage, depending on the industry and materials as well as the volume needed to be stored, the silo has different sizes and shapes.

We often see silos in agricultural factories specializing in the rice industry because the need to reserve rice is very large, needing to store from 50 - 1000 tons.

In addition, cement companies cannot lack storage silos, but due to fine powder materials, using prismatic silos is the most optimal solution.

Basically, the silo structure has two basic geometric shapes: a circular cylinder and a rectangular box (square or rectangular) with a funnel-shaped bottom to collect materials and flow in one direction to the outside.

Structural principles

There are only 2 models of silos: cylindrical silos and box-shaped silos. In terms of structure, these two types of silos are completely different in structure as well as the purpose of storing materials in them.

Operating principle of silo:

In terms of operating principle, these two silo models are basically the same:

Due to the height, the material is loaded into the silo by conveyor belt, screw conveyor, exhaust fan or bucket loader (compensation), in which the compensator is the best choice because it scoops vertical materials well from low to high. Takes up a lot of space to operate, very suitable for storage silos. Besides, it has a low price and is more durable than other conveyors.

When the material has been loaded or filled into the silo, there is usually a glass hole cut into the outside partition to let us see the silo's storage level so we can stop loading.

After filling the silo, the raw materials will be stored there until needed to use or consume, then we release the raw materials using a manual lid or an automatic pen.

Bags can be put into the bagging scale directly or use a closed valve to limit dust and compression of materials

In addition, in large food factories with containers up to several thousand tons, we combine conveyor belts located at the bottom of the hoppers to load materials from the hoppers at the bottom of the containers and convey them straight into trucks and shipping containers.

Points to note when choosing a silo container:

The storage silo must be 5%-->10% larger than the current demand volume.

Do not solder iron on the inside of the partition as this will create an obstacle blocking the free flow of material in the container

With materials that are corrosive and destructive such as: rice, stone, coal, sand, we should make corrugated iron partitions thicker than other materials.
